Illuminated Bathtub: Chromotherapy at Home

Backlit Bathtub: Chromotherapy at Home

Color lighting in bathrooms not only plays a decorative role, but also has a therapeutic effect. This effect is called chromotherapy.

Benefits

Each color of the spectrum has its own wavelength (electromagnetic radiation) and has a specific therapeutic effect on the nervous system.

One light has a relaxing, calming and analgesic effect, while the other, on the contrary, tones and stimulates.

Indications

Indications for chromotherapy:

  • disorders of the nervous system;
  • metabolic disorders;
  • panic attacks;
  • insomnia;
  • depression;
  • post-traumatic pain;
  • increased fatigue;
  • biorhythm disturbances;
  • circulatory disorders and cardiovascular system;
  • Rehabilitation after surgery.

Contraindications

Chromotherapy also has contraindications. Most often they are manifested individually based on the general state of health. For example, red shades affect the heart, which can negatively affect patients with hypertension. Cold shades have a sedative effect, so they are not recommended for the melancholic, and flashing light is strictly contraindicated in epilepsy.

Methods of chromotherapy

The best effect is achieved in conjunction with water procedures in the bath. Warm water relieves tension, relaxes, clears energy and allows you to tune in to the treatment. Three main chromotherapy techniques can be distinguished:

  • Luminescent;
  • molecular;
  • Visual.

Luminescent therapy is the passage of white light through color filters, the output of which produces a beam of a particular color.

In molecular chromotherapy Filters are ointments, gels or other special products, including homeopathic.

Visual therapy is the viewing of pictures and the surrounding with objects of a certain color. Here the effect is through visual perception.

Bath salts, aromatic oils and other care products can also have a therapeutic effect of color. In addition to the use of color light in showers and bathtubs, therapeutic effects can also be used in room decorations and supplemental lighting.

Effects of the colors of the spectrum

Each color has its own therapeutic effect.

  • Blue shades have the longest wavelengths and therefore have a stronger effect on the nervous system, having a relaxing effect. Violet is indicated for nervousness, pain, and relieves anxiety and restlessness. Blue helps you relax and unwind. Blue soothes, cures insomnia, relieves anxiety, menstrual pains and brings a sense of calm.
  • Warm shades, on the contrary, energize, irritate the nervous system, tone it up. Red color is ideal for tiredness, it stimulates the nervous system, speeds up the heartbeat, improves circulation and energizes. It is indicated for low blood pressure and hypothermia. Orange is not so aggressive. It relieves stress, and at the same time gives a feeling of psychological comfort, while it relieves apathy and melancholy. Orange colors energize, stimulate appetite, help with asthma and allergies. Yellow stimulates brain activity, encourages communication, relieves fatigue, and invigorates. This color is recommended for high psychological and mental stress, for example, during sessions. Yellow improves digestion and metabolism and helps to lose weight.
  • The golden mean is green. It is associated with freshness, greenery, health, and fills a sense of harmony. It helps to relieve eye muscle tension, fatigue, headaches and improves the metabolism. Green has a calming effect on the nervous system, but does not suppress it as blue colors do.

Chromotherapy can have a big effect on the nervous system, relaxing or energizing. But in case of serious illness it is only as a complementary healing procedure, not as an independent therapy. Check with a chromotherapy specialist to find out which shades will be most effective.
