Asymmetric bathtub: original solution for unconventional interiors

How much attention is paid to color when repairing the bathroom. And this is certainly right. Color is a mood, one of the main psycho-emotional components of the interior. But the interior is not only the color, but the general content of the interior. The size, shape, and style of furniture and sanitary ware play no less important a role in creating a harmonious space.
Try to abandon the standard way of designing a room and build the entire interior, including the selection of palettes, starting from a single object. For example, the bathtub. Asymmetrical model will allow you to take the most common sanitary equipment at the head of the design idea. Modern production allows a virtually unlimited choice of forms, sizes, colors and materials.
Advantages
Asymmetric baths are gaining in popularity due to a number of undeniable advantages:
- Creating an unconventional individual interior. How much can you install the same rectangular models in the bathrooms, differing only in size? The asymmetric bathtub puts an end to stereotypes, enlivens the interior. Install it, and it will attract attention more than scarlet towels!
- Solution for small rooms. The problem of small bathroom area is relevant to many apartment owners. Often the installation of a standard bathtub reduces the usable area of the room. The optimal solution is to buy a corner model. It allows you to maximize precious square meters without sacrificing the ergonomics of the room.
- A variety of sizes, shapes and colors. Its use is not just a departure from the standard rectangular sanitary ware. This is a wide scope for imagination, allowing the realization of almost any design idea.
- Functionality. Many asymmetric models have internal lines that follow the contour of the body, equipped with handles, armrests and headrests. But it is worth mentioning that such a set of useful details often have acrylic bathtubs, in which you can also install a Jacuzzi system and even lighting.
Modern models are equipped with hydromassage function. You can read more about them in our article about bathtub with hydromassage.

Types
In exclusive sanitary ware stores you can find asymmetric bathtubs, made of wood, stone and even glass. However, this pleasure is unlikely to be affordable for the average resident of a high-rise.
Models that can be found in ordinary construction stores are divided into 3 types, depending on the material of which they are made.

Acrylic
The material acrylic was invented back in the first half of the 20th century. However, its widespread use in the construction and repair industry began relatively recently. Here, acrylic baths are still unfamiliar to many, but their popularity is growing every day.
All the variety of shapes and colors is possible through the use of acrylic. This material is easy enough to mold and paint, resistant to abrasion, does not burn out, easy during operation m care. Acrylic is the choice of connoisseurs of progress, modern and multifunctional solutions. Another advantage is their low weight, which significantly streamlines the process of installing the bathtub.
Do not choose acrylic asymmetric models with overly complex shapes and an abundance of small details - convexities, depressions, etc. Quality acrylic in terms of thickness and composition is difficult to complex detailed molding.

Cast iron
If acrylic is a modernity in the production of sanitary ware, cast iron can be confidently called a good old classic. The undoubted advantage of a bath made of cast iron is that it keeps heat very well. Also the advantages include low noise when pouring water and, of course, durability. It can serve literally for centuries.
But asymmetric cast iron bathtubs do not have a great variety of forms due to the refractoriness of the material. As a rule, they are available in two typical sizes: 150x70cm and 170x100cm. Basically they are right- or left-hand corner models. But individual order from the manufacturer is also possible. Minus can be called and the high weight of cast iron plumbing, which significantly complicates the installation and requires increased requirements for the base.
More about them you can read in our article about cast-iron bathtubs. Before choosing, be sure to look at the article - you will learn a lot of interesting things.

Steel
Steel is also quite a classic material in the manufacture. Due to the sufficient plasticity of the material, steel asymmetric bathtubs are more diverse than cast iron asymmetry.
Steel asymmetric bath will be the best solution for those who are wary of modern materials. At the same time, its cost is very democratic.

When choosing a steel or cast iron bath, pay attention to the quality of the enamel. Chips, cracks, leaks, stains that differ in color are not allowed.
Dimensions
The main aspects in choosing a bathtub with asymmetric structure are the shape of the font and size, and only then the design. Depending on the size, the capacity can vary from 100 to 1000 liters.
For a very small bathroom you can choose a steel corner or acrylic bathtub with the size of 90x90 cm. Of course, it will hardly turn out to soak fully in it, but it will cope with its task regarding hygiene quite well and such tiny bath. You can also install corner models with the parameters 150x70cm and 170x100cm to save space.
For installation in spacious sanitary rooms, the choice of asymmetric bathtub is limited only by finances and imagination. The length of the model may be 180 cm or 200 cm, it may be round or oval model that looks more like a small pool. The interesting solution could be a double bathtub.
Now there is every opportunity to realize almost any design idea. The model in the form of a hammock looks very impressive, although it is hardly convenient to use.

Shapes
The name "asymmetrical" such bathtubs received because of its appearance. They are characterized by polygonality, the connection of the sides, different in shape, length, and sometimes height, at an angle greater than 90?
Depending on their configuration, they can be divided into:
- Polygonal;
- Angular;
- Trapezoidal;
- Tubs of complex shape.
A polygonal model has at least five sideswhich vary in length. The joining of the sides may be completely devoid of right angles. For free sale, such asymmetric bathtubs are a rarity. More often they are made to order.

Jacuzzi whirlpool baths will give you an unforgettable experience and will transfer you into a state of bliss.
Asymmetric-rectangular (trapezoidal)
Three sides, aligned at right angles and of different lengths, make up the contour. The fourth side is beveled or rounded.

Corner
Use the most popular. Two sides of such a bathtub join in a right angle and adjoin the walls of the room. The third side has a rounded or curved shape, less often - straight. For very small rooms, you can pick up angular asymmetric bathtub with the size of the sides 90x90cm. is considered a standard size of angular baths with a ratio of sides 1.3x0.7 meters and 1.5x1 meter.

Complex profile
There is a big variety of models. They are characterized by different heights of sides and a combination of different geometric shapes. For example, one part of the bathtub is round and the other is oval or rectangular, and even triangular. In any case, model with a complex configuration of the baptismal font is the center, around which the entire interior is built.

Features of installation
Installation of the bath, as well as any plumbing equipment, requires locksmith skills. Poor-quality plumbing threatens serious trouble, including with the neighbors. Therefore, it is better not to save money and to entrust the installation to a professional team.
Installation of the bath is carried out according to the horizontal level. Drainage slope is already provided in the design.
Depending on the model, the installation process of different asymmetric baths may differ slightly, but in general the installation includes a number of mandatory works:
- Shut off the water supply to the bathroom.
- Dismantle the old tub.
- Check the overflow and drain and water systems for suitability or replace them.
- Assemble the support frame.
- Position the new product and adjust its level with the feet.
- Connect water supply and drainage systems to the bathtub.
- Check connections for leaks, fix any leaks.
- Firmly fix the feet to the floor.

The sewer pipe must have a slope of at least 2 cm per meter of length.
When installing a steel bath to give it more stability, in addition to installing the feet under the bath put bricks or foam blocks. The space between the blocks and the bottom is filled with assembly foam.
To prevent the construction from foam expansion, be sure to install the load inside.
The advantages of installing an asymmetric bathtub over a traditional one are more than obvious. To bring dynamics to the interior, it is not necessary to look for complex models. Even with an ordinary corner bath, the room can acquire the relaxing atmosphere of a spa.
