How to choose the correct height of the toilet from the floor?

The problem of choosing a toilet bowl at least once in life is faced by every urban dweller. After all the toilet is a thing and durable, but after ten or twenty years, it still begins to need to be replaced. In addition, when moving to another apartment new owners often prefer to change all the plumbing equipment in common areas. And of course, the purchase of a new toilet can not be avoided if you move into an apartment without construction repair. So, sooner or later, the question of purchasing a toilet bowl will certainly affect you. In order to be ready for this in advance, you should have an idea about the main factors that should be taken into account when choosing this sanitary device. One such factor is the height of the toilet bowl.

Types
The height of the toilet bowl will largely depend on its type.
According to the method of attachment, the toilets are divided into:
- Floor-mounted. This model is installed in most bathrooms today. This is a standard toilet, consisting of a bowl-base and a cistern attached to it. Such a toilet is installed directly on the floor, that is, the bowl simultaneously plays the role of a rack.
- Suspended. More modern models, which are not yet very common. Most often they can be found in the toilets located in public places (restaurants, sports clubs, etc.). Suspended toilets are mounted above the floor directly to the wall with a rigid frame that holds the entire structure. In this case, the cistern is often hidden behind a false wall.

According to the shape of the bowl there are the following types of toilets:
- With a funnel-shaped bowl. Inside such a bowl has no protrusions, so all the impurities immediately fall into the drain, which is located strictly horizontally. The big disadvantage of this design is the splashing of water, which occurs during flushing.
- With a disc-shaped bowl. A bowl of this form inside has a ledge with a small depression, in which initially all the impurities fall. The disadvantage of this design is the frequent need to use a mop, high water consumption and splashing while flushing.
- With a visor bowl. The shape of such a bowl is similar to the previous one, but instead of a depression in the ledge it has a small hillock. Thus, sewage does not accumulate in the bowl, and roll directly into the drain. For this type of toilet bowl is not characterized by splashing water.

Depending on the type of release allocate:
- With an oblique outlet. Such a model is needed when the sewer pipe is too close to the floor level.
- With a horizontal outlet. Such a model should be purchased when the socket of the sewer is at a height of 5-10 cm from the floor level.
- With a vertical outlet. This model is advisable to buy when the branch pipe of the sewer is located far from the wall to which the toilet bowl will be installed.

Height standards
For more than a century of history of production of sanitary equipment certain standards have been developed concerning the size and height of the installation of toilets. These figures are directly related to the average height of a person, a figure that slowly but surely changes upwards. That is why every decade the standard height of the toilet bowl increases by several millimeters.
The dimensions and height of the toilet bowl installation are shown in the following figure.

Floor
Thus, the standard height of the floor toilet, which existed in recent years - 40 cm, is already giving way to a more modern standard - 42 cm. And in some countries, whose population consists of particularly tall people, began to produce a half-meter high toilet bowl.

Before choosing, try different options and find the best one for your height.

Suspended
For suspended toilets, the figures will be different. The main thing here is to take into account the distance from the floor level to the bottom edge of the toilet bowl. Ideally, it should be 20 cm.

It should be borne in mind that if after the installation of the toilet will be followed by installation of finish flooring, then this distance will be reduced, and the position of the toilet bowl will be uncomfortable.

Selection process
In order to choose a toilet bowl model, which will be comfortable for all members of your family, you need to understand a few important nuances:
- Price. Depending on the cost, you can select three types of toilets: budget model (usually the production of domestic manufacturers); medium-price segment model (usually the production of Turkish, Czech, Polish manufacturers); luxury models (Swiss, Austrian and German production).
- Height. To select the height of the toilet bowl should involve all your family. Sit down on the model you like: if it is comfortable, your feet touch the floor, and your muscles are relaxed, then this height suits you.
- Type of flushing. According to this feature there is a distinction between direct and circular flushing toilets. In models of the first type, water during flushing moves only in one direction; this type of flushing is considered more economical in terms of water consumption. Models with a circular flush, the toilet bowl is flushed with water in two directions, which provides a more thorough cleaning.
- Material. Today for the manufacture of toilets use a variety of materials: plastic, artificial stone, cast iron, steel, porcelain and faience. The last two options are the most modern and the most profitable in terms of price-quality ratio.

No splashing
Water splashes very often interfere with the comfortable use of the toilet, not to mention the fact that this phenomenon is very unhygienic. Toilet manufacturers offer a variety of solutions to this problem. Models of toilets with the system "antisplash" - this is one of the relatively new engineering developments.
"Anti-splash" - is a feature of the design of the toilet bowl, which is designed to compensate for splashing that occurs during its operation. Labeling about the presence of this system often deceives the buyer. To determine the presence of "anti-splash" yourself, look into the bowl of the toilet bowl model you like. To suppress the movement of water, the drainage hole should be very narrow and located as low as possible. Also, pay attention to the fact that the drain hole was off-center, and the water level in it was low enough. On the contour of the drainage hole should be surrounded by a special rim. If all of these factors are present, then you have a toilet model, equipped with an anti-splash system.

Technical conditions for quality installation
- The outlet of the new toilet must be the same as the outlet of the old, otherwise you will have to carry out extensive construction work.
- Calculate the distance from the toilet cistern to the cold water supply point. The water is brought in by means of special flexible hoses.
- If your old toilet was installed in the floor and fixed with cement, after removing it, clean the floor base from screed residues before installing the new toilet.
- The installation rules differ for different toilet models, so we recommend that you follow the installation instructions offered by the manufacturer exactly.
