Picture toilets - a stylish detail of your interior

In the view of the majority, the toilet bowl should be exclusively white. Some allow a slight beige, gray or blue shade. And only a few, going to the store of sanitary equipment, set a goal to buy a toilet bowl, painted in a non-standard color, or painted with ornaments.
Toilets, decorated with a pattern is a bright and unusual solution, which is sure to give your bathroom personality. However, such models are often found in collections of luxury sanitary ware, so this pleasure is not cheap.
However, if you apply a little imagination, and a standard white toilet can be turned into a real work of art. In this article we will tell you about the features of the toilet with a pattern and how to make the original design objects from your existing plumbing equipment.

Ready-made models
Toilets with a pattern, presented in the collections of well-known companies engaged in the production of sanitary ware, are characterized by a great variety. These can be models completely covered with a pattern or models in which only some elements are painted, for example, the lid or the edge of the cistern. The choice of patterns is also quite large. Floral ornaments, ethnic motifs and abstract designs are very popular. The color scheme of the pattern is usually chosen under the dominant colors in the design of the bathroom.

A special place among the toilets with a pattern occupy models, which are a kind of reconstruction of antique plumbing. Just two centuries ago, painted toilets were quite common and took honorable places in the toilets of the nobility. Therefore, if you want to make your bathroom look like a restroom in a luxury castle, look closely at these models.

Colored
If you are not ready to experiment with painted toilets, but you still want to add originality to your bathroom interior, we advise you to pay attention to the colored models of toilets. The majority of buyers stop their choice on the sanitary ware in a quiet color scale, soft, pastel colors. Light blue, light green and beige toilets are in great demand, as these are the most popular colors used in the decoration of the bathroom.
Plumbing, painted in bright, saturated colors, looks more effective. However, in this case, the color design of the walls, floor and ceilings should be more restrained.
There are two ways of producing colored plumbing fixtures. The first method consists of applying a colored coating to the finished product, and the second involves adding pigment to the mass from which the toilet will be made. The colored sanitary ware, produced using the second method, is more resistant to abrasion and less demanding in care.

Patterned lids and seats
Another compromise option - instead of a toilet bowl with a pattern to buy accessories and accessories with a pattern. It can be holders for toilet brush and toilet paper or a seat with a lid.
The brightly colored lids are available in great variety on the shelves of hardware stores. They are quite inexpensive, installation takes only a couple of minutes. All this allows you to change this accessory quite often, refreshing the bathroom interior, but without making serious changes.
Covers for toilets with marine themes are very popular. The image of the underwater world and the sea coast buyers choose most often. You can also find images with plant and animal themes, imitations of different textures and funny humorous drawings.

Painting with your own hands
To paint a white toilet with your own hands is not an easy task. First of all, because the paint on products from sanitary ceramics is poorly laid. If you do not have at least minimal skills in painting furniture, it is better to choose some other technique, for example, to decorate the toilet bowl with vinyl stickers or decorate in the technique of decoupage (more about this we will talk below).
Before you get to work, you need to choose a suitable pattern. If with the technique of drawing you are not smooth, then prepare stencils (in any art shop you can buy ready-made).
The working surface should be degreased beforehand with alcohol or solvent and wiped dry. Before this, some people advise sanding the object, but if you are not sure of the strength of the coating, it is better not to do this. The pattern will work better on a tinted surface. Tinting is done with a soft brush or sponge with paint designed to work on ceramics.
When the background has dried, start drawing. Acrylic paints can be used for this. They dry quite quickly, so after a few hours you can begin the final step of the job - the application of the lacquer coating. It will be better if you do not limit yourself to one coat of varnish, but repeat this procedure 2-4 times.

Decoupage of the toilet bowl
Decoupage is a technique of decorating interior objects with cut out drawings from paper. Usually they use napkins or special decoupage cards. If you just start to learn the technique, it's better to choose the latter.
- Prepare the pictures: you can cut them with scissors, and you can carefully tear them with your hands - in this case there will not be a sharp border between the image and the background, that is, the applique effect will disappear.
- Thoroughly wash the toilet bowl and degrease its surface (we have already described how to do this in the previous section).
- Next, it is necessary to prime the toilet bowl. To do this, dilute a paint suitable for the tone in half with PVA glue. It is better to primer in two layers. The second coat is applied after the previous one has dried.
- After the primer dries, you can apply the image. If you use napkins, remove all layers except the first. Decoupage cards should be pre-soaked in warm water for a couple of minutes.
- Technique of work with napkins and decoupage cards is different. Tissues must first be attached to the surface of the toilet bowl, and then smeared with PVA glue, gently smoothing out the irregularities from the center to the edges. Decoupage cards should first be smeared with glue on the back side, and then glued to the surface, avoiding the formation of folds.
- If your bathroom has a high level of humidity, it is recommended to dry the finished work with a hair dryer. After that, you should cover the surface with several layers of acrylic-based varnish.

Peculiarities of care for the toilet bowl with a pattern
One of the big pluses of the toilets with a pattern is that water stains and rust stains are hardly noticeable on them (of course, with the appropriate color scheme of the pattern). Therefore, there is no need to constantly take care of perfect toilet bowl cleanliness.
But if the need for cleaning did arise, avoid harsh brushes and aggressive detergents, especially powders. A soft cloth, warm water and soap will suffice. When caring for products decorated with decoupage, try to use as little water as possible.
