The washing machine knocks when wringing or washing

Yesterday the drum was running smoothly, but today you hear a loud clattering noise? Don't stress and call a repair shop. Maybe it is not so serious.

For starters, listen for disturbing noises caused by large plastic buttons, metal buttons, and other hard parts of clothing hitting the drum as it rotates. If a cause is found, next time turn the laundry inside out or place it in a special pouch before loading it.

Before you start the inspection, unplug the appliance from the mains and turn off the water supply. When examining the equipment to find the cause of the malfunction, pay attention to the following points:

Uneven distribution of the contents is characteristic of outdated models of washing equipment. The laundry in such devices is piled into a clump. This causes imbalance - and the drum hits the body of the machine with each rotation. To correct the problem, interrupt the operation of the machine and align the drum contents manually. Newer models have eliminated this problem.

To make sure that the machine is installed correctly, will help a construction level, which is placed on the lid of the housing. Another way to check - try to rock the machine: if the installation was carried out according to the rules, the construction will not move.

In modern washing machines, the system for eliminating imbalance is based on the operation of springs and shock absorbers, to which the tank is attached. With their help the vibration is compensated and the balance is adjusted. Over the years, these parts lose elasticity, wear out and, as a consequence, get damaged. Often their failure and is the cause of the knock.

The manifestation of such a malfunction will be displacement or unaccustomed tilt of the tank, as a result of which it will hit the other internal parts of the device during start-up. In this case, immediately interrupt the washing process and fix the failure by disassembling the unit and replacing the defective parts. At the same time check the condition of the shock absorber fasteners and tighten them firmly if necessary.

Shock absorbers stretched so much that they are touching the bottom wall of the tank, generating a knock? They also need to be replaced immediately. Even if one of them is in good condition, you have to replace both of them at once. Otherwise the load will be distributed unevenly.

If the appliance rattles and vibrates when wringing, assess the condition of the counterweight. Over time, the fasteners that hold the weight loosen, and it begins to dangle, banging against the tank. To correct this problem, the machine will have to be disassembled and the retaining bolts tightened. Sometimes it is found that the counterweight is damaged, then it must be replaced. There will be no difficulty in obtaining a replacement part. Attach the new weight to the tank, assemble the machine - and start washing.

Drum knocking is usually caused by three things:

• A small object has entered the tank and hits the drum as it rotates. The danger of this malfunction is that the drum may jam. It is necessary to interrupt the operation process and remove everything unnecessary from the tank. To do this, remove the front or rear wall of the housing (which depends on the model of your washing machine); take out the heating element and through the opening remove the debris.
• If the squeaking noise is preceded by a creaking noise, the cause of the malfunction is the bearing wear. This part of the construction needs to be replaced. Usually such malfunctions are associated with a long service life of the technical means. Professional repairmen warn that the elimination of such a malfunction involves the replacement of all bearings and glands, since the failure of one element indicates the wear and tear of the system as a whole.
• The knocking may be caused by the surge protector attached to the back of the case (its main function is to protect the machine from power surges). In the course of operation, the screws on which it is fastened loosen, and the filter begins to catch other parts of the device. In this case, the part must be fixed firmly, if necessary, by replacing the loose fasteners.

Please note that if you hear knocks or other noises, stop using the machine, because loose or damaged parts can cause serious damage to the mechanism.
