Bathtub and shower faucets with long spout

Bathtub and shower faucets with long spout

If you think about it, the long spout pipe over the bathtub is not a thing of prime necessity at all. The days when a cramped adjoining bathroom was equipped with only one swivel spout, which simultaneously served the sink and bathtub, are slowly becoming a thing of the past. Such a design freed people from the need to make a water supply to the washbasin, simplified repairs and allowed them to save some space.

Now bathrooms have become more spacious, buying new plumbing equipment of any models is no longer a problem, so people began to gradually abandon the long spout over the bath and are increasingly choosing more compact models.

Faucets with a short spout or no spout at all are becoming more and more popular - there are also such models, which direct a stream of water into the tub directly from the faucet body. There are some models that direct the water jet directly from the mixer tap into the bathtub, where it is mostly used for filling the tub, which is why you don't need a spout. However, fans of traditional models make many convincing arguments in favor of a long spout. In this article, we will talk about the advantages of faucets with a long spout, their varieties and installation methods.

Advantages

Those who give preference to models with a long "spout" do so not without reason. Familiar to all of us type of spout, which many people are in a hurry to abandon, actually has a lot of advantages.

  • It is easy to fill buckets and basins with water. With a short spout to do so is not easy, and often quite impossible. To get a stream of water into the container, you will always have to keep it tilted, so fill it up to the top will not work. However, this task can be easily accomplished with a shower.
  • It is convenient to wash the baby. Young parents know how difficult it is to wash the baby alone, who does not yet know how to stay on their feet independently. And even the shower will not help here, because one hand will be busy with the child, and the other with the shower head. A faucet with a long spout solves this problem because it creates a stream of water away from the walls of the bathtub, allowing you to slip the child under it and freeing one hand.
  • A long faucet allows you to quickly wash your head without undressing and without going into the bathtub. Many women use this way to reduce the time of morning gatherings, so they choose a faucet with a long spout. It is especially convenient to use swivel models for washing the head.

When is the installation of such a faucet necessary?

Unfortunately, buying bathroom fixtures, we can not always be guided only by our own taste preferences. Sometimes the peculiarities of the room and household habits dictate our terms, with which we have to agree. This also applies to the choice of spout length. Choose a model with a long spout if:

  • there is no possibility to bring water to the washbasin - in this case, only a swivel mixer will help you;
  • you are limited in money - the purchase and subsequent maintenance of one faucet instead of two will cost you half as much;
  • the sink and basin are used for washing things or dishes;
  • there are small children or pets in the house;
  • You are used to washing your head under the faucet (it is also convenient to wash your hands and feet in a bathtub with a long spout - without splashing water all over the bathroom);
  • The sink, for which you are buying a faucet, is big and deep - in this case, the short spout will be inappropriate.

Installation options

No matter which model of faucet you chose - with a short or long spout, both models can be installed in several different ways.

  • Mount it to the wall. This method is ideal for swivel faucets. With this method of installation, only the faucet, valves or lever and shower head with hose remain visible, and all the connections are hidden behind the false wall of drywall. Before you install the faucet on the wall, make sure that the tub is securely mounted and not wobbly, otherwise there will be a risk of leaks.
  • Mounted in the body of the bathtub. This is a more modern solution, which became popular just a few years ago. Mounting the mixer into the bathtub rim allows you to free up space on the wall for a mirror or shelves. Such mounting of the mixer is also convenient because if you are in the bathtub, all the controls are at your fingertips. As in the previous case, with this method of installation, all connections are hidden - this time, behind the edge of the bathtub.
  • Installed on a special stand. A stand for the faucet is a stylish and original solution that is just beginning to take root in our apartments, and, judging by the high cost of the work and complexity of installation, it will not take root soon enough. In order to install such a rack, you will need to place the tub farther away from the walls of the room and conduct the distribution of pipes under the floor.

Pull-out faucet

If you don't like the look of a faucet with a long spout, or if you think it takes up too much space, but you like its functionality, we advise you to consider a faucet with a pull-out spout.

  • It is very convenient for use in the kitchen, because it allows you to wash a deep pan or a three-liter jar without splashing water all around.
  • If you install such a faucet in the bathroom, you can forget about how uncomfortable it is to wash your head under the sink. Faucets of this type are used in hair salons. With them it is very convenient to rinse paint or conditioner from the hair.
  • Most models of pull-out faucets have two modes - regular and aerated (shower). Using the shower mode is convenient for washing fruits, vegetables, herbs and cereals.
  • A sliding mixer has a larger operating range than a regular mixer. The radius of action of such a mixer is about half a meter. The water flow can be directed in different directions.

If you prefer a more traditional solution, look at faucets with a retractable aerator - they have similar functionality, but a more familiar design.
