Sizes of sinks and washbasins

In choosing washbasins, buyers consider their appearance, the shape of the product and the method of its attachment, as well as the material from which the sink is made. An important selection criterion is also the size of the appropriate model. What sizes of washbasins should be paid attention to and what are the characteristics of models of a certain size?

Important dimensions
Both for the washbasin itself and for the cabinet under it or other elements, first of all look at the basic parameters such as width, depth, as well as height. The figures are written in abbreviated form. For example, you can meet the designation "washbasins size 550x480x150 mm". So, these washbasins have a width of 550 mm, depth (distance to the wall) - 480 mm, and height (depth of the bowl) - 150 mm.

If you are looking for, say, a washbasin with a pedestal, specify the dimensions not only the washbasin itself, but also the stand. In this case, the parameters are written as height-length-width. For example, the manufacturer or store offers pedestals for porcelain washbasins with the size 640x215x200. This means that the height of the pedestal will be 640 mm, and the length and width, respectively, 215 and 200 mm.

Width
This is the main parameter of sinks, on the basis of which choose a suitable product in stores. The width of the sinks is represented by a fairly wide range - from 35 to 100 cm and more. If you buy a corner basin, this parameter refers to one of the sides of the product, located along the wall. The optimal width is called 55-65 cm.
With the small size of the room, many sacrifice the width of the sink, but the products, which have this parameter is less than 50 cm, are not too convenient in operation. Very often the splashes from such a washbasin fall beyond the boundaries of the sink. Models with a width of over 65 cm are mainly bought for a spacious bathroom.

Height
This parameter often indicates the depth of the bowl of the product. The normal height of sinks is 13,5-15 cm. The deeper the bowl of the sink will be, the less splashing will be outside of it.

As for the height of the sink (and this parameter is also important when choosing models with a pedestal), you should choose the product taking into account the height of the household members.
The optimal height for men, at which the sink should be located in the bathroom, is from 94 to 110 cm. For women, this parameter will be slightly less - from 81 to 92 cm. The most in demand are models with an average value, in which from the floor to the top of the sink is measured 86-93 cm.

Depth
This parameter shows the distance from the edge of the sink to the wall. For comfortable washing, the depth of the sink should be between 48-61 cm. You can check if the depth of the product suits you without a tape measure. Just stand close to the washbasin and stretch your hand over it. If the back wall of the model will end at the level of your fingertips or the middle of the palm, you can safely buy such a product.

Popular Sizes
Since the main parameter for choosing a suitable washbasin is the width of the product, we will consider the features of sink models specifically taking into account their width.
40 cm
The use of a sink with such a small width is mainly limited to washing hands and meeting technical needs. Therefore, such a sink is most often purchased in a toilet or tiny bathroom. Often it is a corner model, but there are also oval and round wall-mounted versions. They can be suspended with free space at the bottom or complemented by a small cabinet for storing household chemicals and accessories.

50 cm
Buying such an ergonomic and oversized sink helps to save space, so it is most often purchased when the size of the bathroom is limited. The sink with a width of 50 cm is often chosen for the interior in the style of minimalism. Sinks for it can be represented by suspended, recessed, overhead, corner and other models.

55 cm
Sink with this width is one of the most convenient to use. It is not too oversized, so it will fit perfectly into a miniature bathroom. Choosing a built-in model or a corner basin, you will additionally save square centimeters. Also very popular are products with a cabinet, in which you can hide pipes and store cleaning products.

60 cm
This width is considered the most optimal for a washbasin, as the product will be very convenient to use. Sinks with a width of 60 cm are presented in a large variety and forms of the bowl, and design. The product with such dimensions is often chosen in tandem with a nightstand, but in recent years the most popular have become suspended models.

65 cm
Models with this width are considered very convenient for washing. It is also nice that they are presented in a wide range. You can choose a 65 cm wide hanging model, a floor standing washbasin with a pedestal or a product that will help to arrange the corner of the room. Design ideas for sinks of this size are particularly diverse, so you can easily find a product for any interior.

70-75 cm
Sinks with these parameters are not suitable for small bathrooms. It makes no sense to install them in a standard bathroom, because the convenience of use is commensurate with models with a smaller width (55-65 cm), and valuable centimeters of space will be taken up. If you are the owner of a fairly spacious bathroom, do not miss the opportunity to buy a washbasin width of 70 cm or 75 cm. Especially since such products are very loved by designers for the possibility of implementing creative ideas.

80-90 cm and more.
Such wide washbasins are usually bought for a large area bathroom. In this case, they often choose a spectacular model that can become a bright accent or a "highlight" of the room.

If desired, one washbasin with a large width can be replaced by a double sink. It is important that from the center of one sink to the center of the other was at least 90 cm, otherwise it will be inconvenient and difficult to use both sinks at the same time.
