Quartz Vinyl Tile

Quartz vinyl tile

Today, manufacturers offer all new solutions for the repair and design of the premises. A great option for finishing the floor or lining the walls is quartz vinyl tiles. Let's understand what type of tile it is, consider its features and benefits, as well as options in the interior.

What is it.

Quartz vinyl flooring is the new word in renovation. It is made of a dense, resilient material and is an improved PVC coating. It is mainly used in the finishing of floors and walls of exterior and interior spaces with large crowds (retail and office space, cafes, restaurants, bars). But it will also have a place in the interior of the house or apartment.

The material has a huge number of advantages, among them environmental friendliness, safety, moisture resistance. However, there are also disadvantages.

Characteristics

Quartzvinyl is a sandwich - coating, which has in its composition the following components:

1 layer: polyvinyl chloride. This is the base layer, which provides a long-lasting adhesion of the tile with the surface.

2 layer: fiberglass. Performs the function of reinforcement, i.e. increasing the carrying capacity.

3rd layer: quartz and vinyl. Thanks to them, the product has good strength.

The 4th layer: decorative. It gives the surface a texture. It is on this layer, photoprints are applied to the picture.

5 layer: polyurethane. This is the outermost upper layer of the tile, protecting it from damage.

Also quartz-vinyl tiles contain such environmentally-friendly materials, as: a high-molecular plasticizer, a natural coloring pigment, a stabilizer and a lubricant. About 80% of the material is natural quartz, and only 20% is vinyl and other additives.

All substances in the composition are sintered and pressed, so the thickness of the finished material does not exceed 4 mm, which determines the high wear resistance of the material.

Advantages and disadvantages

Quartzvinyl is a safe and environmentally friendly material. By choosing it, you can be sure of a long service life, and the manufacturers give a guarantee of more than 20 years of use. The high quality of the product is confirmed by international certificates.

In addition, the following advantages of quartz-vinyl tile are highlighted:

  • any damaged area can be easily repaired;
  • The material has good antistatic properties, which makes it possible to combine it with electric underfloor heating;
  • it does not succumb to chemical and abrasive effects, is not flammable;
  • has good soundproofing properties;
  • thanks to polyurethane impregnation, protecting the surface of the finished product from fungus, this type of tile can be used in rooms with high humidity. Moreover, thanks to the surface with good grip, you can not be afraid of slipping;
  • when using it, it is possible to replace individual parts, without affecting the integrity of the rest of the coating;
  • the composition of the coating gives a feeling of warmth, softness and comfort (it will be pleasant to walk on it barefoot);
  • the gap between the tiles will not appear even with the sharpest temperature fluctuations;
  • the tiles can be successfully combined at any angle, and the variety of design and texture creates the basis for creative ideas in the interior.

Advantages of quartz-vinyl tile many, but when buying it, you should also pay attention to the disadvantages:

  • Despite the fact that this type of tile does not emit harmful substances and is safe for health, it is more of an artificial material;
  • to prevent the appearance of irregularities and cracks, you can not violate the technology of laying.

What is better: quartz-vinyl tile, laminate, linoleum or PVC tiles?

All of the listed coatings are united by such important properties as moisture resistance. But there are also certain differences. We have already described the composition of quartzvinyl coating, which consists of solid elements, due to which the coating is the most durable, unlike all of the above options.

PVC tiles are softer and more elastic to the touch, because they do not contain solid elements.

Linoleum in its structure is similar to PVC - coating, but the main component in it are resins and polymers, which give elasticity and softness to the finished product.

The number of layers in the laminate depends on its strength class: high 31-33 class includes five layers, and 21-23 classes - only three.

Another important difference between all of the above materials is the laying technique. The easiest way to lay linoleum, which is sold in regular rolls and freely laid. In order for the coating to look perfect, the base under the linoleum is simply enough to level.

Clean the surface well before laying quartzvinyl and polyvinyl chloride tiles, because even dust can reduce adhesion. In addition, manufacturers offer easy to install self-adhesive PVC panels, made in the form of a square or rectangle with any applied ornament.

The greatest difficulty is the laying of laminate, because in this case you can not ignore the substrate, which insulates the material from the floor surface.

The price range between all materials also varies. The most budgetary option is undoubtedly linoleum. PVC tiles will cost a little more. And the price of quartzvinyl coating and laminate will vary depending on the strength class selected.

Types

Based on the method of installation, there are the following types of quartzvinyl tiles:

  • Adhesive (coating, for fixing with the surface, which requires glue);
  • with locking joints;
  • self-adhesive (the underside of this coating is impregnated with glue, closed with a special film).

An important feature: it is not necessary to dismantle the old surface before laying. Such tiles can even be laid on a wooden floor or tile. In this case, the wood must be puttied with a special putty for wood, and on the tile should be treated with grout seams and cracks. Among other things, quartz-vinyl tile can be successfully used on the walls, and the method and features of laying and preparation will be the same as for the floor.

Producers

Belgian company FineFloor has over 10 years engaged in the production of building materials and has established itself as a manufacturer that produces high-quality and environmentally friendly products.

The distinctive features of this tile are high strength and durability, which is confirmed by special tests. At the same time, designers work out all the details of the pattern in each collection, and the combination of colors and textures is carefully controlled by the management.

Manufacturer TarkettThe company, which produces no less quality products, has proven itself in the production of incredibly beautiful modular tiles, allowing you to combine multiple colors, textures and shapes on a single surface.

The Japanese company Art Tile In its production technology uses a method of coating reinforcement, the use of which improves the performance properties of the finished product, while most manufacturers neglect it. The only drawback of this manufacturer's products is a high price category. But it can also be justified, because legal safe products of high quality simply can not cost cheap.

Of the features of the tiles from this manufacturer can be noted the minimum thickness not exceeding 3 mm and exceeding the standard density of more than 1.6 tons / m3. The thickness of the protective layer does not exceed 0.55 mm.

The company DECORIA is not inferior to other manufacturers in terms of the quality of their products. It is famous for its use of new innovative technologies in its production. The successful combination of crushed natural quartz and heavy-duty vinyl makes it possible to produce a highly durable product.

Thanks to the outer polyurethane layer, DECORIA tiles perfectly imitate the structure of stone or wood. Thanks to the leading achievements in the field of building materials, each individual tile is able to withstand even the most serious loads.

Extremely warm, soft and comfortable surfacing that will last for decades to come. VINILAM.

Quartzvinyl tiles from this manufacturer have the following properties:

  • sound-permeability 7Db;
  • Three-component protective layer of 0.4-0.55 mm thickness;
  • 100% waterproofness.

In addition, the finished product has all other indicators of quality and safety, allowing VINILAM to remain in the ranking of the best manufacturers.

The company from South Korea DEART CORPORATION has a representative office in our country and offers luxury tile under the brand brand DEART FLOOR. The manufacturer focuses on wealthy people, for whom it is ready to offer luxury tile, which is noticeably different from the products of competitors.

Design and color solutions of each instance are developed taking into account modern trends in interior design. Moreover, the product undergoes the strictest quality control at every stage of production.

How to choose?

The first thing to pay attention to after choosing a manufacturer and design is to decide on the size and shape. As mentioned above, quartz vinyl tiles come in square and rectangular shapes. Square sizes range from 300x300mm to 600x600mm. Rectangle sizes are also different, ranging from 120x148mm to 950x184mm.

The preferred average thickness depends on the room in which you intend to install such tiles. It ranges from 1.6 to 3.2 mm.

It is important to pay attention to the wear resistance class, which can be determined by the thickness of the coating. For example, 21-23 classes of durability (very thin) are designed for residential premises. Coverings from 31 to 34 classes of resistance are laid in offices, stores, restaurants and others, involving large crowds of people. The thickest material of strength classes 41-43 is suitable for industrial premises.

Options in the interior

The most common place for laying quartz-vinyl tiles - the bathroom. Such material can cover both the walls and the floor in the bathroom, and the color can be selected on the basis of the prevailing color scheme.

For the living room will be more appropriate quartzvinyl tile with wood imitation. Fortunately, manufacturers produce this material with a texture that perfectly imitates it. Such tiles would be a great support for laminate flooring.

Why not put quartz vinyl in the kitchen? The material can imitate with high fidelity even stone of different shades. Perfect for a modern or modern style (fans of the classics choose the texture of wood).

Unlike many other coatings, it meets all safety requirements and does not emit harmful impurities. Tile can be applied in the design of children's rooms. Moreover, the child will not slip on it and will not get injured.

Preparation for installation

An important role in the laying of such a material is played by the preparation of the surface. The quality of the finished coating will depend on this. Moreover, the basis does not play a role: it can be any.

Concrete screed is first cleaned from dirt and dust, remove defects, primed and degreased. The second step is the use of self-leveling mixture. Before laying the surface must be perfectly dry and clean, humidity should not exceed 5%.

The wooden base must also be devoid of all defects and irregularities. Gaps should be putty, and the surface must be pre-sanded. Do not stick out self-tapping screw heads, otherwise it will be impossible to achieve a perfectly smooth surface. The substrate must be cleaned of dirt and dust, and degreased. The ideal would be to impregnate wood with a biocide composition that keeps it from rotting.

The evenness of the surfaces is checked with a level: if there is a gap between the rail and the base, it should not exceed 2 mm. Before laying tiles in the bathroom or toilet, it is recommended to pre-insulate the base.

Laying

A very important rule before laying: the purchased tiles should be kept for a couple of days without taking them out of the package.

Let's look at the stages of laying classic square quartz-vinyl tiles:

  • 1 stage: marking. The line should be drawn in the center parallel to the wall. This should result in 4 sectors and the intersection in the center should form a perpendicular.
  • Step 2: Application of glue for 30 minutes. The masonry usually starts either from the door or from the center of the room.
  • Step 3: Fixing the tiles with a pressure roller to remove glue residue and air bubbles.
  • Step 4: The tiles are laid tightly together, avoiding gaps and expansion joints.
  • Step 5: Removal of adhesive residue, installation of skirting boards.

It is better to put furniture in a couple of days, and wash the surface no earlier than five days.

It is not recommended to lay quartzvinyl tile on a concrete base, because the special composition for fixing tiles is poorly attached to the concrete surface. In addition, the finished tile surface will be cold.

Reviews

Buyers note the high strength of the product, eliminating cracks on the surface even if a heavy object falls on it. Among the advantages are the ease of laying (you can not spend money on the work of a master) and the ability to replace a damaged fragment.

Consumers are satisfied with the warm surface and the original texture. In addition, this modern material has distinctive characteristics of safety and environmental friendliness, which also plays a decisive role in the purchase.

Of the negative reviews: some buyers noted the ability of tiles to burn out and loss of color under the influence of constant sunlight.

Today, manufacturers offer a huge selection of floor and wall coverings of different properties and materials. Quartz vinyl tile combines the best qualities, and is not inferior to other, similar materials. The range of its application is wide, and the variety of shades and textures allows you to implement any design solution.
