Installation

The process of installing a glass block partition is not easy, but you can do it yourself, even without special skills and abilities.

You can use one of the existing ways of fixing:

  • special frameworks, modules and profiles;
  • cement-sand mortar;
  • adhesive composition.

With the help of special frameworks, even a novice can be trusted to install the glass blocks. Blocks should be placed in the special cells of the module, using rubber gaskets for fixation. Even without a plumb line and a building level, you can quickly and easily build a partition. This method of installation of glass blocks allows you to move the partition to another place if desired. The entire structure remains intact. If you use adhesive or cement-sand mortar, it will be impossible to change its location.

Each glass block has a protective film. It should not be removed before installation, because you can not only stain the block, but also damage it.

The basic rules, subtleties, and professional tips for installing glass blocks are collected in the video, which we recommend that you watch before you get started:

In construction stores you can buy a special high quality glue, which provides quick and easy installation of glass blocks. Thanks to its transparent texture, it remains invisible, so it does not affect the appearance of the glass blocks in any way.

The cheapest way to install a partition of glass blocks is to use cement-sand mortar. You will also need spacers for even masonry. The installation process is carried out in several stages:

  • The sand for the mortar must necessarily be fine, because large grains of sand can scratch the glass;
  • Glass blocks have a special film that can be removed only after installation. If this film is damaged, then the usual scotch tape will help;
  • The work should begin with a marking, taking into account the size of the room, the glass block and the joints that will be placed between them. If the bathroom has more than 15 meters, then it is worth laying a frame of profiles. To achieve high rigidity, the frame is fixed in three directions: on the floor, ceiling and wall. If the frame is not used, then you can reinforce the joints with metal wire;
  • only three rows of glass blocks can be laid in a day. The mortar does not adhere well to the glass, so you need to give it time to fix it securely;
  • this method of installation is used exclusively for low partitions. The lower rows cannot withstand enormous loads, as the mortar may spread as a result of great weight;
  • for structural strength, it is necessary to purchase special metal rods, which have a cross-section of 4 to 6 mm. They are used before laying the next row;
  • After installing the glass blocks, you need to treat them with grout to hide the mortar. But to save time, you can install immediately using colored mortar.
