Installation of gas columns

When deciding on the purchase of a water heater, quite often the choice falls on devices running on natural gas. They are reliable, affordable and allow you to quickly heat large volumes of water. But even before you choose a suitable model of a heater from Valliant, Neva, Electrolux, Astra, Junkers, Oasis or other manufacturers, it is important to learn about the peculiarities of installation of such equipment.

Installation of gas boilers in apartment buildings is carried out in accordance with such documents:

• SNiP 42-01-2002
• SNiP 31-01-2003
• SNIP 41-01-2003

Many buyers of columns doubt whether it is possible to place it in the bathroom, as they have heard that it is not recommended. Indeed, if previously (in houses of the 60s) the gas service installed the device in the bathroom, in recent years it insists on the installation of the speaker only in the kitchen. However, the ban on the installation of boilers in the bathroom was prescribed in the Code of Practice, in force until 2003.

It is easiest to install the heater in a place where such a device already stood before. It is important to buy a certified device, then go to the housing office to get a copy of the project of your apartment, which notes the water and gas supply, smoke extraction, the location of the heater and its technical characteristics. Next, you need to apply to the gas service for the replacement of the speaker with the preservation of the installation site. You also need a separate application for repair work on the gas main.

If you will be installing the heater in the building for the first time, or are going to change its location, prepare these documents:

1. Act on the condition of the chimney. Such a document is drawn up and certified by the service controlling the chimney and ventilation ducts.
2. Technical certificate of the column.
3. Application of the rightful owner of the housing for the conversion of the apartment. It should be submitted to the city administration.
4. Project of installation, which is performed in the GORGAZ.
5. Statement of work to be carried out by GORGAZ.

Once permission has been obtained, the gas service will make a connection to the gas pipe and install a meter. Separate attention is paid to the installation of the plumbing. After hanging the water heater in place, lined with non-combustible materials, the gas technician must adjust and run the device, and then put a seal on the gas meter.

In addition, the owner is issued a certificate:

• From the fire department.
• On acceptance of the device in operation.
• From the technical supervision.

In addition, the project of installing the column is necessarily recorded in the BTI.

The place where the speaker will be installed, choose with regard to the arrangement of the extraction and compliance with other regulations, as well as taking into account the wiring and convenience of use.

There are such requirements:

• The room for the location of the gas water heater must be non-residential, have an area of at least 7.5 m2 and a ceiling height of at least two meters.
• It is important to ensure sufficient ventilation in the room (a window is required).
• The pressure in the water pipes must be at least 0.1 atm.
• Installation should be carried out on a non-combustible wall made of concrete or brick, then the surface insulation is not necessary. If it is carried out on a non-combustible wall, you can use a basalt heat insulation cardboard 3-5 mm thick and galvanized sheet 0.8-1 mm thick to clad the wall to make it non-combustible. In this case, the insulating material must protrude beyond the boundaries of the column at least 100 mm on all sides.
• It is not allowed to install the units on wooden walls or walls with flammable coating.
• The side panel of the unit must not be closer than 15 cm from the wall.
• There should be a free space in front of the front panel of the device (min. 60 cm).
• The minimum distance from the speaker to the gas stove is 10 cm.
• For water and gas supply flexible hoses or metal pipes with an inner diameter of 13 mm and a length of up to 2.5 m should be used.
• A shut-off valve must be installed on the column before installation.
• Chimney intake duct should have a circumference of 120 mm in diameter.
• Diameter of the off gas from the speaker pipe should be from 110 mm, and the length - from 300 mm to 2 m. In addition, the pipe is placed with an upward slope of at least 2 degrees.

• Using in apartments for the removal of combustion products from the speaker corrugated chimney made of aluminum, is not allowed.
• Faucet, which closes the gas flow to the heater, is mounted next to the device. It must have a yellow handle.
• If you want to hide the gas column behind decorative panels, they must be easily removable and be made of non-combustible material.
• Since the columns have noted some inertia, to avoid emergencies, cold water should be brought to the device with a separate pipe.

Mounting a column in the kitchen, homeowners often think about hiding the device from view, but question whether it is allowed to cover such a device with furniture.

Installing a speaker in the house or apartment, the hood should be given enough attention, because it is important not only for the quality operation of the system, but also for safety. Choosing pipes for the hood, take into account the power of the speaker - when the indicator is below 19-20 kW and providing water to one point, pipes with a diameter of 11 cm are used, and for columns with a capacity above 21 kW, which supply water to 2-3 points, you need pipes with a diameter of 13 cm.

A good choice for a private home would be corrugated pipes made of multi-layer aluminum. Inside such a pipe, a steel wire is installed to give the chimney shape. In urban apartments instead of corrugated chimney use steel pipes coated with white enamel, resistant to heat, as well as galvanized steel pipes. For private homes, this is less preferable option because of the formation of a large amount of condensate in the steel pipe and a high probability of icing in the winter.

In recent years, installation of coaxial ventilation has become very popular. The structure of such a pipe provides for the presence of another pipe inside it - on the inner exhaust gases are exhausted, and the outer pipe enters the air from the street.

If you need to first dismantle the old column, such work will cost you 300-800 rubles, but you can save money and do the dismantling yourself. The cost of installing new equipment will affect the brand of the speaker - the connection of the device of a domestic manufacturer is cheaper (from 1500 rubles) than the installation of an imported speaker (from 1700 rubles).

Also on your expenses will affect the list of works - if you need to prepare the base for the installation of the device, then connect the speaker "from scratch", the price will be one, if everything is already prepared and you have already hung the device yourself, already connected it to the water supply, and the only thing left is to bring the gas, the price will be much lower. On average, you need to pay 3000-6000 rubles for the installation of the column.

In order for the new column to work in your apartment legally, it must be registered. To do this, after the installation of the device, call the gas service, which also issues all the necessary documentation.

In case of unauthorized connection to the gas pipeline, as well as in case of unaccountable gas consumption in an apartment or a private house, the owner faces an administrative fine. Installation and connection of the column should be carried out by certified specialists.

You need to prepare all the documentation and supplies, and they will carry out such work:

• Mark points on the wall for fixing the speaker, then drill them and fix the device with self-tapping screws.
• They will check the draft before installing the chimney.
• Bring the gas hose to the speaker.
• Assemble the line connecting the heater to the water supply.
• Install the part of the hot water line coming out of the heater.
• Install the chimney.
• Test the heater.

In order for a new water heater to serve for a long time and not require repair, you need:

• Regularly carry out its maintenance, cleaning the device from fouling, dust and limescale. The recommended frequency is once a year, but an unscheduled cleaning can be performed if dirty.
• Do not allow excessive heating of water in the heater, as it accelerates the process of scale formation on the walls of the heat exchanger.
• If necessary, install a filter and pump in front of the column.
