Ventilation door in the bathroom

The importance of ventilation
Fresh air in the house - the key to the well-being of the whole family, because in the unventilated room creates a large concentration of carbon dioxide and oxygen deficiency. In addition, toxic substances released by finishing materials and household chemicals can accumulate in the air. And if the problem of clean air in the living space is solved by simple ventilation, in the bathroom and toilet, the case is different.
Not so long ago we did not attach much importance to ventilation in the bathroom. This is due to illiteracy builders, and the fact that for the past couple of decades, has completely changed the approach to repair. There are new finishing materials and building structures, which have good heat-insulating, waterproofing and soundproofing qualities. On the one hand - it makes the bathroom a completely comfortable and completely intimate space, but on the other hand - does not leave a single chance for fresh air to "break" into the room.
In the past, when wooden windows had gaps and the doors in the rooms were not closed tightly, the natural air flow occurred by itself. Today, the organization of air exchange requires a different approach. For example, in the bathroom, in addition to forced ventilation, a door that does not obstruct the flow of fresh air must be taken care of.

Materials
Doors made of glass are excellent for the bathroom in terms of water and heat insulation. They tolerate high humidity, exposure to hot steam and temperature fluctuations well. However, a glass door practically does not let air in (if there are no special holes in it for this purpose).

Plastic doors are similar to glass doors in their properties: they perfectly retain heat and do not let moisture in. Constantly being in conditions of high humidity, they do not deform and do not collapse. Plastic doors are much cheaper than glass or wood doors, but in terms of aesthetic characteristics they are inferior.

Doors made of natural wood are one of the most expensive options, but the most successful in terms of providing ventilation of the room. It is known that wood is not very well tolerant of moisture and temperature fluctuations, so a quality wooden door, designed for installation in the bathroom, should be treated with antiseptic agents and covered with several layers of varnish.
Doors made of laminate, chipboard and MDF - are considered a budget option. They can be installed to the bathroom, as well as in any other room of the house. For such doors, it is usually possible to arrange ventilation holes with your own hands. Recycled materials are coated with special solutions, so not bad tolerate close proximity to water.

Types of ventilation in the door
According to the rules, there should be a small gap between the bottom of the interior door and the floor, through which there is natural ventilation. In reality, apartment owners rarely leave this gap for fear that in the event of a flood, water will spread throughout the apartment. Therefore, many use a variety of seals or equip in front of the entrance to the bathroom threshold. For this reason, manufacturers began to produce bathroom doors with already built-in ventilation. There are two options.
Ventilation grids
The design of such a door is quite interesting: in its lower part there is a small window, into which the actual grille is inserted - a frame with flat blinds, located at an angle. Thus, you can not peek through such a grid, and fresh air will circulate freely in the room. Ventilation grids for doors are made of metal and plastic and have a variety of designs.

Ventilation holes (rings)
This is a simpler and cheaper option. Through-ventilation holes as well as the grid are located at the bottom of the door in the number of three or four pieces. Plastic rings are inserted into the holes, which are responsible for the aesthetic component of the design. You can find "advanced" models on sale, equipped with a protective noise-absorbing mesh.

Tips for choice
As practice shows, it is not a simple task to find a door with ventilation that is suitable for your bathroom in the store. The choice of models is very limited (whereas, for example, to find a metal entrance door with ventilation is not difficult). Therefore, we recommend to equip the door yourself with ventilation.
To make the holes for the ventilation grille or rings, it is best to buy a door made of wood or wood processing materials. To cut a glass door, you will need professional equipment, and how the plastic door if you start drilling - it is difficult to predict.

If you do not want to go through the trouble of buying a new door or mess with the ventilation grilles and rings, you can use the old, tried and tested way. Just trim the door from below by a couple of centimeters. If you do everything neatly, then the damage to the appearance of the room it will not cause, and the effect will be no worse than from modern types of ventilation.
How to make ventilation in the door with your own hands?
One of the most effective ways of organizing supply ventilation in the bathroom is the door ventilation grille. In this section, we will tell you how to install it on the bathroom door yourself.
- First, take a ruler and measure the ventilation grilles you bought (the kit usually includes two pieces).
- Then draw a marking on the door, according to which you will saw the hole. In this case you need to add 1-2 mm to the length and width of the grid.
- Cut a hole in the door leaf of the appropriate size (tools for work should be chosen depending on the material of the door).
- Install ventilation grids on both sides of the hole. Some models are designed to be fixed with construction adhesive, while others can be fixed with self-tapping screws.
That's how quick and easy it is to install an important element of bathroom ventilation!
