Shower repair tips

Everyone knows that nothing lasts forever. In everyday life there are all kinds of breakages and defects. Today we will tell you about the most common faults of shower enclosures and how you should deal with them.

If you have not made any mistakes when installing the shower stall, then you can be sure that your hygiene corner will not bring you any problems for many years. However, if you have not learned any nuances, then you can prepare to deal with the repair of the stall. Most often the problematic part of the shower stall is the control panel, which is responsible for the timely operation of the shower button panel. One mistake during installation and the buttons will not work.

Other breakdowns, however, are mechanical in nature. These include:

• cracks in the shower tray;
• Faulty rollers, responsible for opening and closing the doors of the cabin;
• Poor-quality faucets and hoses.

In most cases, shower trays are made of acrylic. Of course, the easiest thing would be to simply replace the old tray with a new one, but not everyone has the opportunity to do this due to various circumstances. This problem can be solved by yourself. If you have formed a crack on the tray, you can patch it yourself. In this case, you will only have to spend money on acrylic and hardener and renew the coating, which will serve you for many years.

If you decided to deal with the problem yourself, then the entire amount of work should be divided into stages:

• The pallet should be separated from the rest of the structure and check for any other damage.
• Checked? Now carefully wash the pallet and dry it.
• Next you need to expand the crack. The crack is expanded with a drill and a special attachment. Note that the depth should be no more than 2 mm.
• In the same way you should expand the edges of the crack itself. Thanks to this the crack will not increase.
• The next step is to degrease the surface of the crack. To do this, you will need to find a solvent specifically designed for alcohol-based acrylic surfaces.

• Move on to mixing the mortar. In the correct proportions, which are listed in the instructions for use of acrylic and hardener, mix these components.
• The resulting mixture first treat the crack. It should be applied so that a small bump remains on top of the place where the crack was. After the mortar hardens, this bump is scraped off with an ordinary emery.
• If the hole turned out to be through, in that case you will have to seal the hole with fiberglass and epoxy resin. Remember that you should start the process of caulking the hole from the outside.
• When everything is done, all that's left is to dry the pan. Where you do this depends entirely on your decision. Just do not forget that drying should be done in a well-ventilated place, the balcony is quite suitable.

The drain system, which allows water to escape the shower stall, can also be subject to repair. The only problem here is clogs. When they are not strong, that is, the water drains, but you can see that it is slow, you will suffice with an ordinary plunger or some kind of chemical for cleaning clogs. They will help you deal with this small problem.

But if the clog is serious, the above remedies will not help you, but can worsen the situation. Often to solve the problem you have to take apart the so-called "sump" and flush it. However, if the clog is very strong, then you may have to dismantle the entire drainage system, which is located under your bathtub, and flush and clean it well. Experts note that sometimes the reason for the slow drainage of water are far from the clogs, and the wrong location of the pipes, because when they are inclined at an insufficient angle, the drainage of water is slower.

In shower cabins, the faucet is the most fragile place and most often exposed to damage. We will tell you when you can repair this or that part of the faucet yourself, and when you will have to do a complete replacement of this construction.

It is possible to repair in the following cases:

• Wear of the gaskets. Most of the problems with the faucet start because of the most common gaskets. No matter what they are made of, faucet gaskets wear out very quickly, the reason for this can be water quality, mechanical stress or poor quality material. Replacement can be made by absolutely anyone.
• Failure of the cartridge. In the fact that there is a problem with the cartridge, you can understand if the water does not mix well and does not fully overlap. There is nothing terrible in the breakage of this part, it costs relatively inexpensive, and it is very easy to replace it. You will have no problem to replace the cartridge yourself.
• The faucet is leaking at the joints. There can only be two reasons for the defect: looseness in the fasteners or wear and tear of the gasket. In the first case, you will only need to tighten the fastening screws to see if this is the problem. If the faucet hasn't stopped leaking, however, you should re-lubricate the gasket.

Faucet replacement is required if:

• The thermostat is broken. A faucet with a thermostat installed is quite expensive. That is why in case of breakage, it is better to replace this part with a new one, it will be cheaper.
• Cracks appeared on the faucet. Breakage of this nature can be safely attributed to the category of serious. If you notice cracks on your faucet, replace it immediately. Cracks appear as a result of leakage, so that your faucet at one point may simply fail and flood the bathroom with hot or cold water, and you'll have to throw money away for repairs as well.
• The cartridge won't hold in the socket. We've already mentioned the cartridge. But in this case, the replacement of the cartridge is not enough, because due to the fact that it does not fit tightly into the socket, the faucet leaks. I want to note that it is better to replace the faucet only if you do not have money to fix the cartridge's seat. It costs certainly not a little, but it is better to fix the problem.

To open the shower doors, the mechanism uses small rollers, which tend to deteriorate over time from constant contact with water.

They are replaced elementary, you just need to buy new similar rollers and put in place of the defective ones. It is worth remembering one thing, after replacing, it is necessary to lubricate the new rollers with a special agent against water corrosion, which will significantly prolong the life of the installed parts.

To solve the problem with a failed shower stall electronics is much more difficult than dealing with its mechanical breakdowns. Recently cabins are stuffed with a lot of different electronics, which makes its repair a very complex process. That is why we do not advise you to try to fix the electrics yourself.

The body of the shower cabin is made of the most common glass. When various kinds of mechanical failures occur, you can easily break it during repair, which is why you should always be very careful. If you do damage the case and need to replace it, it all depends on the shape of the glass.

You can replace a straight type enclosure, that is, without different curves, by buying a new glass. Of course, the shower enclosure glass will cost you a penny, but you have no choice. If you have a bent glass in the body of the stall, then everything is much more complicated, you will have to look for the same original body, and it is quite difficult to do.

Shower stall mirrors, as with any part, not eternal. Over time, the sputtering that is applied to the glass begins to deteriorate, causing the glass itself to lose its neat appearance. The chance of destruction of the glass coating crystals increases if you use detergents "aggressive" chemical composition.

It is not very difficult to replace the glass, you can easily buy it to order. Just remember, if you want the new glass to last as long as possible, then the inside of the stall you need to cover it with a transparent sealing solution.

Do not forget that the shower stall should be cared for. But it will not be enough just to keep it perfectly clean. Periodically you should check the mechanical component of the cabins: the faucet, hoses and everything else, so that there are no faults anywhere. Also, before installing the shower stall, you should install filters on the water pipes. This is done in order to ensure that from the sewer together with the water in your house did not fall foul, which will adversely affect the operation of the entire mechanism of the shower stall.
