Moisture-resistant fixtures are perfect for the bathroom, because they meet all the necessary requirements.

Lighting in the bathroom should be well thought out - so that with the help of lighting fixtures to create functional areas.

The differences between the moisture-resistant and conventional

In order to ensure that the bathroom was not only bright, but also safe, you need to choose fixtures designed specifically for use in conditions of high humidity, such fixtures are usually called "moisture-resistant". The fact is that if the electrical wiring is in close proximity to water sources, an accident can happen. However, an electric shock in the bathroom is a fairly rare phenomenon, much more often lighting fixtures, not withstanding constant contact with humid air, simply fail.

To ensure that the lights in the bathroom served long and did not break, when buying pay attention to their marking.

The abbreviation IP means that such a lamp can be used in rooms with high levels of humidity. The higher the number that follows the letters, the more contact with water the luminaire can withstand.

Varieties

Moisture-resistant lighting fixtures are not just boring rounded plafonds that decorate the ceilings in swimming pools and saunas. Today in stores there is a huge selection of moisture-resistant lamps in different variations. It can be chandeliers or floor lamps, sconces or lanterns - you are sure to find what you need.

  • When choosing lamps for the bathroom, buyers often choose from recessed lightsThey are used to create spot lighting. The main reason for their popularity is that thanks to a special mounting method, only the emitter is visible, and everything else is skillfully hidden.
  • Ceiling lights - are chandeliers and other lighting fixtures that can only be mounted on the ceiling. This is the second most popular option. We want to advise you not to dwell on the standard "tablets" (flat, round lamps), which are usually purchased for bathrooms, and pay attention to more original solutions.
  • Wall lightsor sconces are purchased for the bathroom rather rarely, because they take up wall space that can be used more rationally, for example, to hang a shelf or a mirror. Of course, this applies only to very small bathrooms. If, however, in your bathroom found a place for such lights, then take the purchase very carefully: condensation often forms on the walls, and water droplets can flow into the device. That is why you need to buy wall lights with a high degree of protection.
  • Floor luminaires can be found in our bathrooms quite rarely for the same reason as the wall-mounted ones: because of the lack of space. However, in large rooms such models look very effective, so if space allows, look at the floor structures.
  • Lighting is usually used to delineate functional areas, or as standby lighting. Quite often used as lighting LED strip, which is mounted on parts of furniture or mirrors. Sometimes LED lights are equipped with floor, walls or ceiling.

Features

Moisture-resistant light fixtures installed in the bathroom, firstly, protect us from electric shock, and secondly, are able to function perfectly, even in daily contact with water.

LED Bathroom Lights

There is another feature that should incline the buyer in favor of waterproof fixtures: they do not allow the use of conventional incandescent bulbs, as they are designed for more modern halogen, fluorescent or LED bulbs. This approach allows you to significantly reduce energy consumption, and the bulbs do not have to change several times a year.

As for halogen lights, experts do not recommend using them in small living spaces, because the light of these bulbs badly affects the eyesight. In addition, they require the arrangement of good ventilation and a step-down transformer. Fluorescent and LED lights can be used in apartments without fear of harming yourself or the electrical equipment.

Both consume little power and are protected against moisture and dust, but there are differences:

  • Fluorescent fixtures provide brighter light, while LED fixtures provide softer, more even light.
  • Fluorescent lights make noise and flicker in the dark. However, this only hurts when they are installed in a living room. LED lights are completely silent.
  • Fluorescent fixtures heat a little more than LED fixtures, but compared to incandescent bulbs, this difference is very small.

Selection rules

So, choosing moisture-proof fixtures for the bathroom, you need to be guided by the following simple rules:

  • One of the main selection criteria should be safety device. Pay attention to the marking: in different parts of the bathroom you need fixtures with different levels of moisture protection. For example, in the shower cubicle you need a lamp with an index of IP65, and in the most remote from water sources IP55 is enough.
  • You should take into account brightness luminaire. It depends on two factors. The first factor is the power of the bulbs. For the bathroom, 20-30 watts is enough. The second factor is the material of the plafond. If it is light and transparent, then there will be more light. Fixtures with frosted plafonds can be used for standby lighting.
  • Method and place of attachment The lighting fixtures depend on the availability of space in the bathroom. In small bathrooms, it is better to use ceiling or spot lighting, and in spacious bathrooms - a combination of different ways. With the help of various lamps you can divide the room into zones.
  • And, of course, you can't ignore appearance waterproof lighting fixtures. It is better to buy lighting fixtures already when you have a more or less complete idea of the future interior of your bathroom. In this case, you will be able to choose a light fixture that will be in harmony with the style and color design of the room.

The right lighting

The mirror in the bathroom performs several important functions at once:

  1. You can monitor your appearance.
  2. Visually expands the space, and the bigger the mirror, the stronger this effect.
  3. The mirror surface reflects light, so that the room becomes brighter.

With the wrong lighting, the mirror can have a completely opposite effect: distort everything that is reflected in it.

If you do not want the bathroom to turn into a kingdom of crooked mirrors, you need to properly organize the interaction between the mirror and the lighting fixtures.

Backlighting for Bathroom Mirror

For example, if on one side of the mirror you plan to hang a sconce, then on the other side you must necessarily place the same. It is desirable to have one ceiling lamp in the bathroom, giving even and strong light. We advise to pay attention to models, with transparent sides, as their light penetrates into all corners of the room.

Other lighting options

Many people would like to have a window in the bathroom, but only owners of country houses or luxury city apartments can afford it. Basking in the bathtub, the former can admire the picturesque countryside, while the latter can watch the night lights and the hustle and bustle of the big city.

If only a few people can have a real window in the bathroom, then anyone can make an imitation window, if only there were some space on the wall. To do this, you need to choose a suitable image and transfer it to a lightbox - a large, flat light fixture that gives a smooth white light. Lightbox is mounted on the wall and optionally supplemented with an imitation window frame.

Lightboxes in the bathroom

The advantage of this method is that you can choose the view from the window - it can be the African desert, the center of Beijing or Niagara Falls. Most importantly, make sure your new light fixture is waterproof.
