Repair of boiler with his hands

All appliances eventually fail, and it happens regardless of the manufacturer - Thermex, Ariston or even Gorenje. If your water heater breaks, you don't have to go to a repairman right away. Some problems can be diagnosed and even repaired by yourself.
Water is not heated to the right temperature
Possible causes:
- Scale formation on the heating element;
- Magnesium anode is worn out.

Limescale on the heating element
It is possible to remove limescale on the heating element using your own resources. To do this, you only need to perform a few steps.
First, disconnect your boiler from the mains. Then you need to drain all the remaining water and disassemble the body of the water heater. It is necessary to disassemble the body in order to get the heating element itself - this is not difficult, even for an inexperienced user.

To disassemble the water heater body you will need to disconnect all existing clips and unscrew the bolts, there are usually 6 pieces.

When you remove the heating element from the water heater, you must immediately begin to clean it, because the scale will still be wet, and it will be easy to clean. Use a variety of special cleaning products, as they help you deal with plaque without too much trouble. The plaque can be removed with a wooden spatula or a non-sharp knife.
Do not use sharp materials for cleaning - you will leave deformation and scratches on the surface of the part, which will contribute to the fastest corrosion and rapid formation of scale.
The most effective and reliable way to clean is to destroy the scale by boiling the heating element together with acid. Then use a fine grit emery cloth to scrape the tube of the remaining scale.

In the following video you can see how to clean the water heater's heating element on the example of the model of the company Termplex.
Worn out magnesium anode
If the magnesium anode of the water heater is worn out, it is recommended to replace it. Magnesium anode protects the boiler from corrosion. You can buy an identical one to the one you have in specialty stores. Be sure to buy only the anode whose brand you have.

Then you need to check the operation of the water heater itself, putting everything together in reverse order. Do not forget to fill the tank completely with water, and then plug it in and start the machine.

Water does not heat up at all.
Possible causes are
- the heater does not work;
- the thermostat is out of order.

- It is necessary to make sure to test the heater of the boiler with a multimeter, setting the readings of the device to resistance values. To check if the heater works, place the multimeter probes on the contacts of the heating element and look at the display. In case of faulty heater on the display you will see the reading in the range "0.4-0.7". If it is defective, the reading will be "1". Then it must be replaced.
- The thermostat can be checked in the same way as the boiler heater. If the thermostat is also defective, then to replace it there is no need to pour water out of the tank, just unplug the device from the mains and unplug all the wires at the water heater.

Water dripping from the water heater
Possible causes
- Wear of the gasket on the flange;
- Wear of the tank.

- The gasket on the flange can be replaced with an identical size. This will stop the tank from leaking.
- In this case, your tank does not have long to live. For a while, of course, you can seal the holes or glue them shut. But after a while you will still encounter this problem again and will have to change the water heater.

In the video below, you can see how to fix the situation if the water heater leaks and how to prevent future leaks.
Boiler electrocution
Most likely, the problem lies in the heater of the boiler.

You need to check with a multimeter to see if the boiler heater is in good working order. Connect one of the probes to the heater, the other to the pipe. If the display shows "1" - the heater is good, if you see a minus or the opposite is a big plus, then you need to replace it.

The display does not show the temperature or the display does not work
Most often this problem is due to a malfunction of the control unit.

First you need to check all the elements. If the fault is not found, then the problem is in the control unit. Here you need to trust the specialists of the service center, because you should not fix electronics without special knowledge and skills - you will only harm the water heater.
