Temperature and humidity in a Russian bath

Many people consider bathing procedures useful and with pleasure give them time at leisure. For full relaxation and getting a positive result from a visit to the steam room is important to steam at the optimal temperature, humidity and quality of the steam released.

What should be the temperature?
The air in a Russian-style bathhouse is characterized by maximum humidity with little warming. This is the key advantage and difference between this type of sauna and dry sauna. To regulate the percentage of humidity in the steam room, red-hot stones are periodically poured with cool water. This leads to a clean, dense steam and a sharp increase in humidity in the steam room. Comfortable temperature there reaches 70 degrees, and humidity - 90%. In the sauna, the latter indicator is minimal.
The hot steam has its own advantages, such as quality heating of all muscles and joints, as well as warming the internal organs. The Russian type of bathing presupposes the use of vegetal brooms that function as a massager.
The moist steam bath improves blood circulation, relaxes tense muscles, opens clogged pores and then drains toxic products of metabolism through the skin.

It is normal to raise the temperature in the bathhouse gradually, especially when the first treatments are carried out. The recommended maximum difference between the first room and the outermost room should not exceed 41°C. All rooms in the sauna complex have their own norm of humidity and heating:
- in the steam room, the average temperature is defined as between 55-90°C with 72% humidity;
- In the pre-bath room, it is 28°C at 78%;
- In the changing-room, the ratio of temperature to humidity is 26°C to 61%.
In the baptismal font (pool) the water temperature must not fall below 15°C and be above 25°C.

Optimal humidity
In the bath it is necessary to control the air - its heating and humidity. To this end, you must install meters in the steam room. When humidity is low you can splash water on the hot stones, and if there is too much humidity it is enough to slightly open the door to the steam room. When it gets too hot, it is better to sit further away from the stove, take the lowest shelf.
In a Russian steam room with humid air, unlike a dry sauna, the sweating process is not as active. With a humidity limit of 90-100% the temperature should not cross the 70 ° C mark. If steaming elderly people or those who can not boast of good health, it is recommended not to exceed the mark of 55 ° C, the maximum allowable in this case. If the humidity is low this parameter can be raised.
In a classic Russian steam room temperature creates "healthy steam", but the second most important producer of it is the right humidity. The average and most comfortable humidity is 40-70% at a temperature of 60-90°C. This ratio is only possible with a closed type stove.

With the open version of the furnace stones are allowed to use aromatic oils and herbal decoctions. In contact with heated stones, the air is saturated with healing essentials, the inhalation of which has a positive effect on the body. The choice of essential oils and herbs is made individually, taking into account personal preferences and tolerance.
It is worth remembering that different plants have different effects on the body, leading to healing from many ailments, relaxing or invigorating. But allergic reactions to individual components are also possible. So you should be careful, because a hot bath is not the place for experiments on the health and stamina of the body.

Maximum ratios
Determine the right temperature of the furnace in the steam room is simple enough: you need to put water on the stones. If you hear a sharp pop and instantly form a cloud of steam, the stone surface is heated to the desired degree.
The comfortable temperature in the bath is 45-60 degrees on the background of 50-60% humidity. In order not to harm your body and to control the performance of bathing procedure, it is desirable to use existing devices - special bath thermometers, hourglasses.
For those who are new to bathing, it is advisable to follow the advice of doctors, who state that the temperature in the steam room should not exceed 60-70°C with humidity of 70-80%, which is harmless to health. This mode is the most suitable for the average visitor of the Russian steam room. Since the steam room is visited for the sake of health, and not to determine the limit of body strength, there is no need to try to set some questionable records in the heat.

Of course, if you have poor health, problems with cardiovascular system functioning you should visit the steam room with special caution. It is necessary to reduce the time of staying in the heat and control the temperature level.
For the healing effect in the bathhouse for small children and the elderly it is sufficient to heat up to 45-50°C.The maximum temperature for athletes and people with good health is 70-80°C. At what temperature to take a steam dictates personal experience, well-being, health and fitness of the body.

What is the danger of excessive heat?
Therapeutic effect of bathing procedures appears with the observance of humidity and temperature regime. In Russian bathhouse with 90% humid air it must not be hotter than 70 degrees Celsius. If the dosage of heat is incorrect, overheating occurs, which manifests itself as a feeling of fatigue, nausea, pulse rate and increased blood pressure. Excessive heat is also manifested by skin reactions - in some places it heats up to 42°C and shows a "leopard pattern" in the form of white spots on the background of general redness of the skin.
Based on the research, it was possible to determine what temperature and how long the human body is able to endure. According to the published data, it can be noted that the higher the temperature index, the less allowed to stay in the steam room:
- at 71 degrees - up to 1 hour;
- at 82 degrees - up to 49 minutes;
- starting from 93 degrees - no more than 33 minutes;
- From 104 degrees - 26 minutes.

The temperature in the wet Russian steam room can exceed 110 degrees if the body is properly trained. The more hardened it is, the easier it will be able to adapt to the external temperature change and steam saturation. But the first time is not recommended not to leave the steam room for a long time. It is important to gradually build up the number of minutes spent in the heat.
For heart patients and hypertensive people, a hot and humid bath is strictly contraindicated. From high temperature and excessive humidity increases the load on the heart, dilates blood vessels, and the originally weak organ has to work at breakdown. In the best case, a patient with cardiovascular disease in the steam room will have severe weakness and lack of oxygen, and in the worst case - he will have to be hospitalized by an ambulance with a diagnosis of heart attack or stroke.
Russian bathing is useful and recommended for absolutely healthy people with stamina and a strong heart.

Russian bathing is contraindicated to visit the Russian steam room and chronic diseases. Also from the high temperature in the steam room is exacerbation of existing chronic diseases. Alas, the bathhouse does not cure all ailments, as the old Russian proverb says. If you have a history of anemia, varicose veins, epilepsy, pulmonary tuberculosis, peptic ulcer, hepatitis, and any form of neoplasms, it is strictly forbidden to take a steam bath. High fever in a humid steam can cause a rapid increase in the size of the tumor.
With tuberculosis, a sick person can aggravate his or her condition and put others at risk of infection. The same applies to hepatitis. The contraindication for visiting the Russian bath is also children under the age of 12. Elderly category of citizens should refrain from bathing procedures at high temperature. Such water procedures will do them more harm than good.

Cirrhosis or kidney stones are incompatible with bathing temperatures. Increased sweating can lead to slower production of urine, which aggravates the course of the disease. Also, skin diseases are not "friendly" with heat and moisture. With increased sweating, infection and viruses have a high chance of spreading quickly.
Steam baths should also be prohibited in case of high temperatures: overheating of the body can significantly increase its temperature and lead to unfortunate consequences.
If you have any chronic diseases, you should get the approval of your doctor before visiting the sauna.
