All about oval bath barrels

Oval bath-tub baths - a simple and affordable solution that allows you to create a bathing and steaming complex on the plot of a country house, in the country house, even if the free space is very small. Tips for choosing such structures allow you to understand what kind of a complete set will be optimal. But before you buy, it is worth learning more about what are the oval-shaped barrels made of cedar and other materials, 4×4 m models and other dimensions.

Features

The oval barrel bath has an unusual appearance, but in its structure differs little from its counterparts made of timber. It is a traditional frame structure, lined with wood and tightened with metal hoops, similar to the products of cooperage. The ellipsoidal shape gives it certain advantages. It is easy to heat the interior space - in summer it takes 15-20 minutes, in winter - up to 1 hour. On kindling and maintaining heat takes less firewood, moreover, in seasonal operation inside you can even install an electric stove with a heater.

Materials

Bath-tubs with an oval-shaped contour are most often made of strong, durable wood, not subject to strong drying, easily enduring temperature changes.

  • Made of cedar. This type of coniferous wood is the only one suitable for the construction of baths. Cedar board has a high density, does not shrink, contains natural substances that protect it from the development of pathogens. Unlike other conifers, cedar is not as resinous.

In addition, when heated inside the barrel there is an aromatherapy effect, useful essential oils are released.

  • Made of oak. This strong and dense material perfectly holds its shape, and its structure looks really attractive, even without special toning. Oak barrels are not afraid of moisture, well tolerate temperature changes, retain heat. The only drawback of oak - high cost, in the mass order of bath barrels from it do not make.
  • Made of linden. One of the most useful types of wood for human health makes it possible to turn the bath into a real spa complex. The substances released when heating linden boards have a beneficial effect on the skin and respiratory organs. This wood retains heat well, the bath quickly gets the desired temperature inside. The only serious disadvantage of linden planks - low moisture resistance, with high atmospheric humidity the service life of the construction is greatly reduced.
  • Made of aspen. One of the cheapest variants of materials used for the construction of a bath-tub. In its characteristics, it resembles lime, but it is not so sensitive to moisture. It is a good choice for the construction of an economy variant of the bath on the site.

The right choice of materials allows you to get good results even with a limited budget. In the case of a barrel bath, the cost of wood is negligible, but its base must meet certain criteria. Conifers, with the exception of cedar, have a high resin content, when heated they release into the atmosphere substances that are not too good for the body.

Dimensions

When choosing an oval-shaped bath-tub, the main parameter is the thickness of the material: the higher it is, the better the thermal insulation. The walls of structures, aimed at winter use, should reach 60-100 mm, for the summer will be enough and 40 mm.

The dimensions of the oval-shaped bath-tub varies, depending on its capacity.

  1. 4×4 м. This format makes the design almost square, inside there are 3 compartments - pre-bath, steam room, washing compartment.
  2. 2, 35×4 м. The most compact version with only a steam room and a pre-bath. For washing a summer shower, this is not a variant for all seasons.
  3. 2,35×5 м. Universal, but still small-sized model, suitable for seasonal or year-round use. Inside there are three compartments at once.
  4. 2.35×6 meters. A full-size sauna barrel, suitable for family use, relaxation with friends. With sufficient insulation, it is easy to heat it even in winter.

Since the design of the sauna barrel is noticeably limited by its shape and size, you have to take into account this point in the planning of interior space.

In terms of convenience, such designs lose to full-size variants on a solid foundation.

Selection Criteria

Choosing the right bath-tub oval shape requires special attention to detail. It is important to pay attention to the type of wood: it should not be solid pine or spruce, only dense hardwood. In the case of structures made of cedar, precious boards should be used not only in the inner lining. Often, out of cost savings, manufacturers use other materials on the outside.

It also matters the arrangement of the floor. The boards should not be laid horizontally, a slight slope is necessary for the outflow of water into the drainage hole. The construction of the walls also matters. If you offer a "pie" of two layers of battens with OSB sheet inside, it is better to refuse to buy. Such construction will lose its operational properties after a couple of years.

The right, quality bath-tub is assembled in the moon groove, which prevents its deformation.

The straps and hoops used for ties should have a thickness of at least 2 mm, serve not as a decorative decoration, but a full-fledged element of the construction. It is better to choose a roof with a coating of flexible tiles: it is not afraid of frost and moisture.
