Curtains are an obligatory attribute of many Russian bathrooms. Here it is not even about beauty and love of textiles and comfort. In a small bathroom, such a curtain is a real necessity.

Inexpensive and varied curtains are sold in small stores and in large supermarkets, so making them yourself is the lot of perfectionist designers. But how to make a choice and what should the average person pay attention to?

The Russian reality of a modest space: bathrooms are so small that it is not always possible to turn around, and in some apartments we have to use the combined bathroom.

Therefore, curtains in the bathroom are used for the following reasons:

• Shy: the cloth allows you to detach yourself from other bathroom visitors (in a combined room and a large family this is relevant), to remain invisible while receiving procedures, covering your nakedness.
• Practical and protective: the curtain creates a natural mechanical barrier to water and reduces water dust and steam that settle on the furniture. Many of the materials in this room are designed for high humidity, but they can handle a bucket of water (when the shower was used unluckily) more difficult than a couple of drops. This will extend the life of the interior, you do not have to clean up after a visit to the bathroom, too.
• Decorative and applied: bright curtains create a mood, decorate it and help to separate the area for relaxation from the rest of the space.

Curtains in the bathroom is a useful and good thing:

• Cheap. All curtains are made with polymer and artificial fibers, so they are inexpensive compared to curtains made of natural materials. It is possible to change this part without much cost.
• Durable. Thanks to the same non-natural composition, the material is durable and enduring. It can easily cope with moisture, it is easy to wash. Like many polymer products, the canvas can last for decades.
• Safe: almost all products are tolerant to temperature changes, inert, do not absorb water, resistant to fungus, mold. Many have a special treatment and impregnation. However, low-quality samples sometimes find their way to the market: if the curtain exudes an unpleasant acrid smell that does not go away after a few hours, it is better to get rid of it. Most likely it is made of cheap plastic, which is just not safe.
• Low weight is related to the properties of the fabric. Most inexpensive materials are lightweight, so the total weight of the final product is small.
• Large range: it is not difficult to find curtains on sale, and there are many drawings - to any taste.
• The ease of installation is another advantage. Even women and children can cope, without using force and additional tools.

The disadvantages of such designs arise from sloppy use. If you don't direct a strong jet at the fabric at close range, don't pull the fabric sharply down, and don't hang on the curtain or its ledge, you won't know about it. A light fabric will not save you from a strong directional jet. Therefore, when using the shower, still try not to "aim" at the curtain.

There are a variety of materials that are used to manufacture curtains. The most affordable is polyethylene, but because of its low weight and density, it is also the most "problematic", it is a "one-time" option. It is much more convenient to choose vinyl film or polyester curtains. They are safe and hygienic. But natural materials are irrelevant because of the humidity. Still, there are on sale and exclusive curtains for the bathroom made of textiles, such as linen and cotton fabric, treated with special water-repellent compositions.

The drawing of the curtains also varies: transparent, monochrome, with a large plot or a small pattern. The themes of the pattern are varied: geometric patterns, vegetal, fantasy, and nautical subjects. "Useful" curtains, which have some kind of information on them: scientific formulas, rules of grammar or dates, are gaining popularity.

The latest trends in bathroom curtains: models on magnets and with weighting at the bottom. The former create a reliable screen in the weak points of the usual design (on the sides and bottom), the latter - better to cope with the occasional jets from the shower.

It is not difficult to choose a canvas for the bathroom according to your taste and wallet. You need to measure the length of the bathtub and its height to be guided in the dimensions.

If the water is alone, you can choose transparent options. And if behind the screen you will be hiding from nosy people, then you will need thick colored curtains.

It is better if the theme of the pattern will coincide with the style and idea of the rest of the room. For a large room options are suitable for large drawings and even colorful paintings on the curtain, and in a cramped room is more appropriate canvas in the tone of the main color or with a small pattern.

Usually, curtains for the bathroom are sold in a set with plastic rings (less often - stainless steel), which are inserted into the prepared holes in the material. Then these rings are strung on a special ledge (a hollow tube, less often - a fishing line, twine, rope). Thus the curtain is hung.

Attachment to the ledge may vary: older models of showers and freestanding bathtubs had a special vertical tube to which this round rod was attached. In other cases, for fixing used nails on the edges of the bathtub. A thread or strong fishing line was tied to thin nails and the curtain "rode" on them. For corner baths, special "turnstiles" are used, as well as spring constructions. For heavy curtains, pipe and nails are used. For the weight of the web, this support is enough.

Curtains in the bathroom are very undemanding. If necessary, you can simply wipe a stain with a damp cloth. They can be easily washed by hand in a simple soap solution, and heavy curtains can also be washed in a machine on low speed. But it is better to dry naturally: if you hang them again on the tube, they are perfectly smooth under their own weight. Curtain fabric usually does not wrinkle.

But you should be careful with strong paint. Bad washable hair dye and other products with strong pigments. Oily and construction paints are also difficult to remove: the composition of the fabric can be sensitive to strong solvents. If you do get your curtain dirty in such paint, test with a small area on the edge. Cheap polyethylene curtains will be easier to replace than to clean from heavy chemical contamination.

Curtains in the bathroom are a bright spot of color that helps to zone and act as a screen and decoration at the same time. At the same time, it "eats up" the space to a certain extent, especially if it is a bright color accent.

Smart curtains are still better than nothing: they refresh and reveal the interior, set the mood in the room and support the theme. As a rule, bathrooms are decorated in a restrained or classic style, so the screen is the biggest color spot, which can harmonize or oppose the main color scheme, giving birth to bold combinations.

Sometimes bathroom textiles are also used to "cover" instead of the doors on drawers and cabinets. In large rooms it is quite appropriate, and in the same color as a large curtain it is also beautiful.
