Accessories in the bathroom play a very important role. They not only make our daily hygiene procedures more comfortable, but also participate in shaping the overall style of the room. Moreover, accessories are a good way to refresh and renew the interior of the bathroom without making a global repair.

Despite the fact that the choice of a variety of interior items for the bathroom is very large, it is quite difficult to find a truly original and beautiful thing. What to do if designer things are fabulously expensive, but you still want to get bright, stylish accessories? The solution is obvious: a lot of things that are sold in interior stores can be done with your own hands. Spending a little time and using all your creative talents, you can create unique things that will decorate your house. We suggest that you start by making a bathtub screen yourself.

The most important point when creating a curtain for the bath is the right choice of material. There are quite strict requirements for it:

• it must be waterproof (and even better - water-repellent). After all, the curtain is installed in close proximity to the bathtub and is designed to protect the floor, walls and furniture in the bathroom from water droplets.
• should be undemanding in terms of maintenance. The bathtub screen is in constant contact with water, soap and other cosmetics, so it is inevitable that drips will form on it. Consequently, the material should be chosen so that it can withstand regular cleaning with a variety of detergents.
• It should be such that you will be able to work with it yourself, using the tools and appliances that you have at home (for example, to sew a fabric curtain can be at home, but to work with glass requires professional equipment).

One of the easiest ways to create an unusual curtain for the bathroom is to sew beautiful ruffles on an already purchased curtain. To do this, you will need:

• A piece of waterproof fabric;
• tailor's scissors or cutter;
• sewing machine;
• safety pins;
• pencil;
• ruler.

Act in the following order:

• We draw the markings on the curtain, on which the ruffles will be attached. The number and width of strips depends only on your wishes.
• Then we cut strips of waterproof fabric of the appropriate size (the length of the strips should be 5 cm more than the length of the curtain).
• Now the strips of fabric should be bunched on the curtain according to the markings.
• Sew the ruffles to the curtain from the front side. Start the work from the bottom row, and move upwards. Beautiful and unusual bath curtain is ready!

You can not only hang the curtain from a watertight fabric on the ledge and screen it off the bath, but also use it as a screen under the bath.

Such a product will have many advantages:

• The curtain will cost you significantly less than plastic, and even more so, plasterboard or glass screen under the bath. If you are limited in funds, it is better to buy a piece of quality waterproof cloth in a beautiful color than to settle for a faded plastic partition.
• Hang a curtain under the bathtub is not difficult even for those who do not have the slightest experience in repair. While to install the screen you may need the help of a professional.
• The screen does not need any special care, it is enough to wipe it from time to time, and once every few months to wash it in your hands or in the washing machine.

• The screen provides easy access under the tub. If you need to repair plumbing or clean under the tub, you can simply slide the screen into a corner or remove it from its hinges - it takes less than a minute.

To sew a bathtub screen with your own hands, you will need:

• a piece of waterproof fabric;
• a tape measure or a tailor's tape measure;
• scissors;
• ledge (or wire, clothesline, etc.);
• sewing machine.

Stages:

• First you need to determine the dimensions of the future product. To do this, we measure the space under the bath and cut a piece of fabric of the appropriate size, making an overlap of a few centimeters along the length. If the fabric is "spreading" along the cut line, you need to bend the edges and stitch them with a sewing machine.
• Sew buttonholes on the top edge of the product. The size of the loops depends on how you attach the curtain. For the curtain rod you need to make larger loops, and for the rope the smallest loops are enough.
• Fasten the ledge under the bath or pull the rope, pre-fastening it in the wall with self-tapping screws. Another option is to glue Velcro to the tub with a glue gun and sew the Velcro on the curtain itself.
• Now you can hang the curtain in place.

Now we have a handy and original alternative to the screen under the bath!

If you do not want to bother with a sewing machine and other tools, you can buy a ready-made shower curtain and change it beyond recognition, making it a real work of design art. For this you can use any improvised materials and elements of décor that are probably lying idle at home. So, to decorate the curtains you can use:

• lace;
• foil;
• sequins;
• seashells;
• buttons;
• mosaic fragments:
• beads;
• stones;
• and much more.

Applique is a type of arts and crafts, with which most of us were introduced in kindergarten. We suggest you remember the skills of handling paper and scissors and experiment with the design of the bathtub screen.

To decorate the plastic curtain you will need water-resistant glue and transparent varnish. The choice of images is left to your taste. These can be abstract figures of colored paper, family photos, fragments of wallpaper or clippings from magazines. The main thing is not to glue the applications on the side of the bath, otherwise all the beauty will not last long.

The technique of decoupage today enjoys particular popularity. Perhaps the thing is that, with a little practice, it can be mastered by anyone. Moreover, the supplies for decoupage are quite inexpensive.

You can decorate practically any object in the technique of decoupage, including the plastic shower curtain:

• First, the entire surface of the curtain should be painted with acrylic paint. Choose the color depending on the overall color design of the bathroom and the selected image. Wait for the paint to dry.
• Then prepare the decoupage cards: cut or carefully tear the pictures and moisten them with water.
• Mix PVA glue with water and prime the surface of the curtain with the resulting solution.
• Before the glue dries, place the decoupage cards on the curtain and smooth them out, smoothing from the center to the edges.
• If the images stand out too much, shade them with any paints (you can use gouache or watercolor).
• The result should be secured with varnish. The more layers of varnish you apply, the better, but there should be at least three.
